Tessenderlo is widely know as a green holiday resort thanks to the nature reserve of Gerhagen.
This immense reserve, of 945 ha (of which 600 ha are forest) is the center of walking activity in Tessenderlo. For more than a century, pine forests are dominating the landscape, centered around the Sand Mountain where the watch tower and a forest museum are worth a visit. As well as being the starting point of several walking tours, it's also an important landmark in the biking and car trips in the neighbourhood.
