Competitions:
Welcome to the Flanders 3-days of 2011. Hamok organises 3 races in the pine forests around Lommel. Detailed sand dune terrains and mostly good visibility guarantee challenging and enjoyable courses.
Day 1: Kattenbos South
Day 1 features a classic distance race in the southern part of the Kattebos forest. This area is divided into two parts by the N746, the road connecting Lommel to Leopoldsburg. The western part is full of detailed sand dunes, but has low visibility due to young leaf trees growing in the older pine forest. Even though the visibility is low, runnability is still high, virtually unhampered by undergrowth. On the other side of the road, the sand dunes and sand pits continue for some time until they end in one of the three large heath surfaces in Lommel. After crossing that one, the typical "carré" zone saw recent woodworks and is now highly runnable. The first start is at 15h00.

Day 2: Kattenbos North
The northern part of Kattenbos features numerous sand dunes, some open sand spaces and areas with younger pine trees covering the dunes. Constant concentration is needed. One moment of concentration loss can be fatal in this very fast terrain.

The competition center of days 1 and 2 will be in the fields separating the two areas. Spectators will have ample run-in photo opportunities.
Day 3 : Heeserbergen
The final day in the newly mapped area of Heeserbergen is a middle distance race in a varied terrain. The easternmost part of the map has some semi-open areas and sand surfaces and small detailed contours. The central part of the map is an open area, providing difficult entry into the surrounding forest. More to the west, typical good runnable forest with vague contours allows high running speed, but the irregular shape of the path network leads easily to direction errors. Finally, the easternmost part of the Waaltjesbos, one of the largest new forests in Belgium, adds a part in leaf forest to the course.
